Puntarenas is very important due to its beautiful beaches and the fast growth of the hotels becoming a very good area for tourism.

It is recognized by Costa Ricans as EL PUERTO , happy place with a nice and good night environment, excellent seafood, restaurants with national and international food.

Once a year there is a carnival for the enjoying of local people and visitors. If you are in EL Puerto is a must going to the Paseo de los Turistas (Tourist Street) where you can seat for a relaxing sunset or just to enjoy one of the dishes they offer and take a taste of Puntarenas and its people known as “porteños” (port land people), always gentile and smiley with a beach environment.

This hot and tropical province offers for the enjoyment of the tourist the nearest beaches from San José. Where locals and foreigners make contact with the folklore of the area: typical foods, candies and the famous "copos" (typical frozen beverage of Costa Rica) they are a part of the landscape with a warming environment and nice people.

Puntarenas is great for sport fishing; and of course the fishing is also an important source of income and job for the residents.
